If you’re a PuTTY user, here’s a cool hack. If you’re ever running a process and it turns out to be taking too long, so you move on to other things, you can get Putty to ring a bell when the process is done: just hit ctrl-g, and when the process completes, Putty will ding. You can also set the default bell for Putty to just blink your window until it’s the active window, which works out a lot better than just a little bell. I’ll let you figure that option out on your own.
